I really liked the service at Oak Island Baptist Church this morning. For their homecoming they had a former pastor of the church, Horace Hawes, come to speak. It was truly a blessing to hear his message and reflections about growing up here on Oak Island. His parents bought a lot here for $695. After a sweet childhood here, he went to Mars Hill College and then Wake Forest for seminary. He served at several churches in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. He has since retired and moved back to Brunswick County. If I hear of him speaking again, I will take advantage of it. He is a very gifted and genuine man. The service was not over until after 12:30 and I was not ready for it to end.
